Artist's Description

The village of Bay St. Lawrence, on the northern tip of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, on a perfect day in early September 2006. This is the “working” part of the village, the wharves and buildings where fishermen take on supplies and bring back their catch. The foreground water is the bay itself, sheltered from the storms of the North Atlantic, with only a very narrow entrance to provide access to the open ocean. From where I was standing, a great circle route would take you over the far horizon and land you near the south of Spain, with nothing in between but water. To get to this place, you have to traverse part of Cape Breton Highlands National Park and then turn off on the side road to Cape North. This will take you to places like Aspy Bay and beach, Meat Cove, and Bay St. Lawrence. If you’re a hiker, and a strong one, there’s all kinds of off-road trails you can take.
Camera used, Sony DSCF828.
