I Read A Book

I Read A Book…

gull calls….
desperate…haunting
across
grey sky
heavy with
rain…
branches tossed
with rushing wind…

i think of
them…arriving
where the air
heaved with burnt
flesh…unknowing…
held by predatory
evil stalking
coridoors of history…

i read a book…
‘night…’
classic on the holocaust…
i have met a survivor…
the desperate cry
to the world screams…
“how could you
look on and do
nothing…?”

the book
by a victim
rightly asks
“where was god?”
in the shadow of death, agony, pain
one also descended from Abraham
says, in the silence of remembering
“i am with you in all shadows
of pain an death…
still I call…open your hearts
knock on doors to hard questions…
walk through …know my
rod, my staff for beyond as long as
forever is…”
