Ripples

Ripples

ripples
tremulous, outreaching
on slow flowing
river
solemn beckoning
from quietness
trees sway
in desperation,
again
i think of
those hostaged
by predatory
state

fragmented existence,
dehumanized in
lonely cells
life rhythm
punctuated by
heavy doors
nerve tearing
turning of
keys
always the
passing
on the other
side
away from

distressed
one shadowed
by institutional evil –
prey to
madness
suicide, violence,
death – evil begets evil
no this is
not the way
it never has been
the way
i know them
by their wanting

all that is
wrong
puts them here
a society
spinning its
web for
the unwary,
the vulnerable –
innocence, wisdom
justice, love
murdered
by Pilate who washes
his hands yet again
