The Sea of Life

It’s a great sea of uncertainty
and I’m riding on the waves -
in a boat too small to handle,
in a storm too strong to brave.

There’s blackness all around me,
bleak waves to right and left.
The harsh wind plows the dark sea,
with doom on every crest.

Aboard my craft there is little -
to save me from my plight.
Tears are washed away – unnoticed.
My screams – ripped into the night.

Yet I know I will get through this.
For all winds have to change.
No storm can last forever -
though uncertainty remains.

Artist's Description

We all have moments where we feel overwhelmed by uncertainty and worries in life. This poem describes those moments of near-defeat and a person’s ability to overcome them, despite feeling unable to do so at times – although life in itself will always remain uncertain.
