Daughter, Mother

I’m the daughter holding my mothers’ hand
learning to gradually let go
I’m the mother holding my sons’ hand wanting
to hold on tight
I’m the daughter calling Mom asking for help
making a life decision
I’m the mother talking to my son telling him
what I would do but proud he can make his own
decisions
I’m the daughter telling Mom I love her
I’m the mother loving my son and cherishing
every “Mom I love you”
I’m the daughter letting go with tears and
laughter, thankful for love and understanding
I’m the mother never quite able to cut the tie
that binds
I’m the daughter of hope and despair
I’m the mother I hoped I would be.
