The Clakfield Hotel, Victoria

During my Xmas break I traveled to Melbourne and visited the The Clarkfield Hotel which is one of the oldest hotels in Victoria, established during the first of the Victorian Mining Goldfields, it was also the first resting place for the Cob & Co horses. The Hotel is also known for its hauntings, being described as one of the most active haunted places in Victoria, and we sure discovered this was true.

There are reports of quite a few spirits that haunt this hotel. The saddest was of a ten year old girl. During the turn of the century a couple with a 10 year old retarded daughter ran the place, one night during a violent argument between the husband and wife, their daughter woke up and ran to their bedroom, she witnessed her father beating his wife and tried to stop him, which incensed him and caused him to turn his anger onto her. he beat her until she was dead, fearing retribution he threw her broken body into the well at the back of the hotel and filled it in with dirt. The wife left him and told the authorities what he had done. Sadly the little girls body has never been recovered and she lays still in her violent makeshift grave. It is said she haunts the hotel nightly, knocking on doors upstairs and crying. Many physics have been to the hotel and all say the same thing, that is that the father who murder her died shortly after his arrest and his punishment is to stay at her side in spirit until eternity. It is said his presence is often felt in the ladies toilet and in the back dining room. There is also a chinese man that was murdered when he retired to his room and later beaten to death for his new found gold. Also there is a woman who is said to have been pushed by a ghost down the staircase, where she broke her neck and was killed. As this hotel was near one of the first Victorian gold mines there are many reports of murders in and around the hotel grounds by theives who robbed gold miners of their gold.

The Clarkfield Hotel was extremely active the night we were there. The shadow door photo was taken in the dining room, we were seated at the table in front of the door. The windows look directly out over the back of the hotel, and the door leads to a small lean-to with a door out to the back of the hotel, where the well is that is now the grave for the young murdered girl. I took the photo which showed the large Orb, which i posted earlier, 3 mins before I took this series of photos.

Ill try to explain the series of events that led to these shadowy pictures. Eight mins before I took the Orb photo, which I posted earlier, one of the girls had a scary expierence in the lady’s bathroom. While she was in the bathroom cubicle, which had a window covered with a lace curtain in it, the curtain flew up and a face came rushing out of the window towards her…. scaring the hell out of her, and causing her to run from the bathroom with her pants still at her knees, which I have to admit was a funny sight. As she ran out of the room into the hall, the cupboard door under the staircase flew open violently, causing her to bang straight into it. We checked with the Hotel owner and that door is always locked as it held all the hotels cleaning gear. I was by the stairs and witnessed this happen to her. The stairwell cupboard, the dining room door & the lean-to are all at the back of the hotel near the well. The hotel owner unlocked the backdoor and let me take some photos of the area where the well stood, which is where the large grey Orb showed itself.

After taking the Orb photo outside i went back to our table in the rear dining room. The girls were quite shaken and reported that while they were sitting there talking the door began to rattle and the door knob began to turn back and forth violently. The lady in the photo a psychic, walked over to the door and just as she put her hand to the door knob it began turning and rattling again. I began to take photos, as you can see by her startled expression. I took these photos one after each other and could see immediately the dark shadow that seems to be moving across the door. We opened the door and there was no one in the small lean-to. No shadow appeared in the photo i took looking through the door when we opened it.
At the same time as this happened, one of the women began to get a thumping headache and felt nauseous. The feeling I got both outside when i captured the big grey Orb and immediately after in this room was of deep sadness and anger, it was quite overbearing.

We were later told by the locals there that many people have experienced the face coming at them thru the window in the ladies bathroom.

So in a matter of eight mins we had a curtain fly up, with no open window behind it, as well as the window overlooking a room, we had a face rush out of the window towards my girlfriend, the staircase door thrown open, causing my girlfriend to bang into it, this was followed by the photo showing the small and large grey Orb over the well, and then in the same vicinity we had the door rattling, the doorknob turning violently in front of four people and the dark shadow moving over the wall, as well as one of the women becoming ill. Quite a bit of activity to happen in eight minutes in four parts of the hotel..

As well as these activities, we got not only a sense of spirits, but many mist, orb and shadow photos around the stables area, which is supposedly where the murdered chinese mans body was hastily buried.

It leads to me wonder if the dark shadow belongs to the big grey Orb, or if it was one of the many other reported spirits that haunts this hotel.

I cant wait to go back and investigate this place more thoroughly.
