Artist's Description

So much fun could be had with this sign!
But, in actual fact, it is a sign on the Portsea Hotel that connects with a bit of geography! The Rip is the pet name for a narrow stretch of water between the Bellarine and Mornington Peninsulas. It is the entrance to Port Phillip Bay from Bass Strait. Why The Rip? It is very dangeous and unpredictable.
And the Portsea Hotel is on the Mornington Peninsula looking out toward The Rip.
