Ode to Tali

An Ode to our dog, Tali

When was there ever a dog, so loved

When was there ever a dog, a buddy
Who’d fetch (my) husband from his
study
Upon some words like “go get daddy”
She would act, as always ready

When was there ever a dog, a pal
Who would respond, giving her all
Total, with complete devotion
Understanding every motion

When was there ever a dog, a chum
Who understood her dad and mum
Anticipating every want
Direct response to do and don’t

When was there ever a dog, a mate
Who on her cues was never late
She’d fetch a ball or find a stick –
When thrown was caught, a perfect
trick

When was there ever a dog, so bright
That knew of all her toys by sight
These she would fetch upon a phrase
From 20 odd about the place

When was there ever a dog like this
Who loved so many, kin and kith
To every friend she’d wag her tail
With old time kin, that joyful wail

When was there ever a dog, –
companion to my spouse,
When doing chores around the house
When Ironing vacuuming and cooking
She’d be there and she’d be looking

When was there ever a dog, a pet
She would leap up, upon our bed
To have a cuddle and a stroke
And lick our faces, when we awoke

When was there ever a dog, to hug
She’d be sleeping on her rug
Yet when alone and lonesome be
She’d be sleeping next to me

When was there ever a dog, a friend
Loyal to the very end
And when it came, we knew her need
To end her suffering with tender speed

When was there ever a dog, so loved
