Artist's Description

The main reason for my travel to New Zealand was to try to capture a good shot of the famous tree growing in the lake at Wanaka. It is a willow that started life as a fence post but kept growing the last 70 or so years. It’s a major drawcard for photographers. The water in the lake rises and falls (due to size of the lake and temperature changes I was told). Sometimes the tree is uncovered from the water and stands on a slight pebbly mound, other times (as here) it is living IN the water. Gorgeous. Tricky to get a good photo with sunrise coming from the right of this image – but that highlights the trees and mountains behind. I am in awe of the talented photographers who capture amazingly beautiful scenes here. I went several times in 3 days to try to get a good shot. Photo taken with my Canon 77D camera and 24 mm lens – cropped
