Ergo Sum

How he struggled with those years of yearning,
With urges primitive, pulling, demanding
But not least pleasing!
How he tasted that, which more envious men
Attempted to deny,
Though in their haste, only hid from prying eyes
Those pleasures they too embraced.
How he lurched towards realisation,
To sit upon his tower of babel
And found himself torn, defenceless,
Though nonetheless able
To coast the thermals for an overview,
And rules that said
“This I must do”
How sad it is when gardeners old
Stunt the growth of treasures untold;
How sadder still is they leave in their wake
A willing force to obey and not forsake.
