Shades of Night

As if holding my breath, too scared to exhale
I watch and wait and hope
That the unseen shall dismiss itself from my presence…
With pounding heart, ringing in my ears
I remain motionless until all is safe

Fear of the unknown deems me powerless
Knowledge is power

I must know what is out there hidden by
Shadows cast upon some dark forest floor
On concrete sidewalks
Around corners of abandoned buildings
Their broken windows
And doors agape with darkness within

Fear of the unknown deems me powerless
Knowledge is power

And so I await the daylight
With darkness ebbing
Now shadows reveal shapes
Shapes that no longer frighten
My mind no longer creating monsters unseen

Fear of the unknown no longer deems me powerless
For knowledge IS my power source

Shades of Night

Artist's Description

Written in response to JRGarland’s written words entitled Casting Shadows. A sort of writing duel, I suppose…

Dedicated to dear JR whose writings often inspire me! Thank you, JR!
