A Snowy Day At The Beach

The snow has almost stopped falling
Random flakes still escaping the sky above
The beach is quiet with windswept sands
Until I hear laughter and see dogs running, playing
Their masters close behind

Three ships lumber across the water
In one long line
Like a train
One leading the others

One large dog rushes to the water’s edge
Two little ones wearing coats
Seem concerned with the “white stuff”
And stay close to their master

Birds swoop on by
In formation
Out of formation
Their randomness challenging my predictions
Of where to look next

The ripples of sand
Cleverly create an abstract
Nature’s artistry
Layering white with tan
Rising up in hills
And then down again

I take one long look
A look that must last
My memories brimming
With a snowy day at the beach

An unusual event for Virginia Beach to get snow as deep as this, I went to the beach with my camera to document the big event.
I was inspired to write this to accompany my artwork entitled Winter’s Touch.
