Artist's Description

In early 2015, a large area of the northern Adelaide hills was devastated by a massive bushfire, starting at Sampson Flat. 1300 firefighteers battled for over a week to contain the fire. Nature unleashed its fury, burning everything in its wake, reminding us that despite our technology and inflated sense of ourselves, we are no match for these events.
A year later, we are still coming to terms with the fire, and in the past weeks another let loose in the wheat fields north of Adelaide, this time incinerating many brave souls who though they could fight it one on one.
A cruel beauty, nevertheless, because as it recovers, the colonizer species of the Australian bush move in and proliferate, many dependent upon fire for germination.
