The Mirror Girl Kissed Me First.

Girl you are empty inside you,
a well of nothing creeping up on me at night,
a coral reef wrecked and cast up,
on soft white sand.
Your hips are too sharp and you dance like a puppet,
on top of me you’re like a Guillotine,
You hover, sway, radiate pain,
like a goddess you’re full of milk and eggs.
And if you tip forward my nerves cry out,
not your name but a sound like ice,
breaking on the lake beside your house,
as the child fell through and his lungs filled up.
I loved you when you were laughing,
you mouth looked like a flower,
red lips so soft and plump and dark,
and he said today that I looked like Snow White.
I hate my reflection when she is crying,
she is so cruel and empty,
and every fibre of me screams like a banshee,
a hard faced woman with a beak instead of a mouth,
and barbed wire between her legs.
The jars in the cupboards are full of rot,
and I want to eat,
but the cupboards are furry with mould.
Snow White, you subtle girl,
you jealous, envious, devious girl,
you lead him to the woods and take his heart,
cut it out with an axe and suck on it.
Snow White, you deplorable child,
you wretched wreck of a human child,
why do you take them to the darkest of spots,
before you tell them you’re daughter of a murderess,
before you take off your dress?
She liked to play in the attic, covered head to toe in dust,
lying on her stomach all autumn,
dolls kissing dolls and dolls kissing men,
like a theatre of beautiful shadows,
and particles of gold in the sun,
her knees were always red and dry,
her elbows sharp,
and she held my hand through the mirror,
comforting me when I bled…
