Artist's Description

This image is of a paddock at the Crossroads Medieval Permaculture site near Yass, NSW

Eastern Australia has been in drought for ten years. Though recent rains in New South Wales and Queensland have brought relief to the land there, most of Victoria is still in the grip of the dry. Years of ignorance and attempting to bend nature to human’s will seems to be backfiring, as the great Darling-Murray river basin’s waters are profligately wasted on inefficient irrigation, the once majestic Snowy River is reduced to a trickle to generate hydro-electricity and feed the great dams for irrigation, and the clear felling has led to salinity, topsoil wind-erosion and a droping water table.
