Artist's Description

An immature Northern Bluet (Enallagma cyathigerum) perches under the warming sun on a cool spring day. Note the remarkable relationship of color and pattern between the insect and the tree bark. In fact, the color and deep tonal range of the oval knots bear a striking resemblance to the sharply-defined pattern of dark and light on this daselfly’s thorax. This recently emerged odonate is well camouflaged for its chosen perch.
