Artist's Description

This is my fourth painting in the plein air series and here I am painting in Spello, a small hill town in Italy.

I am seated near our hotel in this amazing town where everywhere you look, new and interesting vistas open up. The view I am painting is one where a foot-way drops down to a small church based on a Greek temple. I enjoyed the stonework of the walls and the cobbled paving on the way down. The walls are so old that they don’t at all resemble our modern brickwork which is so even. It seems that the ancient stone masons simply fitted the walls together with whatever bricks were to hand resulting in a delightful and varied set of arbitrary patterns.

Thank you all for the faves, watches and kind comments, I really appreciate these
