"Tree Of Regret"

She’s chained as the dogs,
to the tree of regret.
Held by her memories,
she tries hard to forget.

Stalled by circumstances,
from out of her youth,
Locked down in remorse,
as she longs to be loosed.

Those choices she made,
birthed by foolish decisions.
Left the dreams of her youth,
with no place for expressing.

Now as her youth fades,
with each hour she mourns.
She wears chains of regret,
for relationships scorned.

Wondering how in the world,
can she repair all she did.
When she walked out the door,
without thoughts for her kids.

Her children all grown now,
with their own kids to smother.
And there’s no time in their present,
to come see, how their mother!

Artist's Description

Nothing is more difficult than to view our mistakes through the window of regret. How often the choices made in youth return to dog the hours of our present. Learning how to process those thoughts and feelings is the biggest challenge of the human heart. Sadly even our best efforts to overcome our deepest regrets will not thwart the consequences of some choices in life.

Our joy in Christ comes not in the knowledge of where we are in our journey but “who” we are as we journey. “And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.” Isaiah 32:17
