I never saw a rainbow, that didn’t bless me so,
Nor have I seen a baby, I didn’t want to hold.
I’ve had a thousand kisses, from others in my life,
solved a dozen problems, and may have stirred some strife.

When you enjoy as many sunrise, as I have often seen,
you spend some time reflecting, on places that you’ve been.
I’ve felt the wash of raindrops, running down my face,
and heard the joy of laughter, from children as they play.

I’ve known the pain of loosing, something that you prize,
and heard the noise of thunder, bursting from the skies.
Now I am much older, advanced within my years,
prone to dreams of wonder, sprung forth thru early tears.

Dreams in early childhood, bear fruit in latter days,
puts youth on weathered faces, that loose their joy with age.
Dreams give wings to places past, that each of us have gone,
as wind beneath the sails of ships, search for lands unknown.

When I dream of the things, that I am yet to see,
my heart finds joy to start again, stirs hope in darkened seas.
The heart must dream to find it’s life, take breath and start to sing,
Like the death of winters past, give birth to early Springs!

Artist's Description

When I wrote this piece, my life was in the throws of adversity. When the heart is heavy it looks to the imagination at times to secure it’s survival. Dreams are the stuff of possibilities. It’s a never ending desire to believe that life will eventually get better no matter how bad the present may seem.
