Artist's Description

Just as their happy chatter in the morning grows as the sun nears rising, birds seem to like to gather in the evening, before the sun sinks. Wouldn’t you love to translate.

Many thanks to Maxy for her birds and forest photographs, used by permission.

Maxy, on more than one occasion has offered to let me use her photographs for a digital artwork. She has photographed some beautiful birds on her deck, by keeping them well fed, year-around. The four in this image are just some of those.

Below, you’ll find a chart showing the elements that went into the digital, modern abstract.

Click any thumbnail in the “DETAIL” section, below, to see that small portion of the image at 100% scale (even though the work you will see is compressed and the resolution is reduced).

For the Indigo Bunting and Baltimore Oriole heads, there is also a LINK to similar sized sections of Maxy’s original photographs, to give you an idea of the changes that were made to the photos. Often zooms in low light are grainy, so this needed to be compensated for. Besides various techniques, I ultimately hand painted (digitally) some detail back into the birds.
.
Maxy captures a bird’s personality. That shines through her images, and why I was and am so thrilled to use them. In fact, these personalities that I see inspired the composition of this very piece.

As such, it’s a birthday present and “thank you” to Maxy, my Solo Exhibition working partner. I’ve sent her a rendition of this file, labeled #3 (her favorite), to do with as she wants, and hope that Maxy finds humor and warmth and beauty in it for a long time.
