Can YOUR dog do tricks and awesome light-shows like this? Ha! That’s why you need to get out to see the Bay Lights!

The much-anticipated Grand Lighting on 5 March 2013 Bay Lights was awesome! The forecast rain started just before to the Grand Lighting hour of 9pm. I was at a very windy cold gusting pier with about 3hrs prior, waiting and feeling the wind pick up. After two hours, I finally decided to move at the last minute and headed toward the Ferry Building then toward pier 14 along the Embarcadero, after being shocked to see such huge crowds everywhere in the blowing cold winds and as it rained! After walking some distance, I finally settled on a spot that was empty only because it was next to the seawall. With such high winds mixed with high tide, the water would splash and toss SF Bay water hard against the wall with a high wet splash on anyone within 4 feet! As it continued raining, a girl to my right started waving her red umbrella into my camera view and if that wasn’t enough, the guys to my left were all very vocal with screaming and interesting choices of words. Eventually the wind and splashes were so bad both sides departed leaving me in camera-bliss peace! ;) Moved a few more times after the lights started but overall, I think the Bay Lights was a success, and yes, if you’re wondering: this image was recorded in the pouring rain! I talked to many who described the amazing lights zipping from one side of the span to the other, as being something very unique and something they have never seen before. Thanks Leo Villareal for bringing your LED-lights to SF!

If in the City, this can be seen on the Embarcadero from Fisherman’s Wharf south to past the Ferry Building, and from parts of Marin County and the Golden Gate Bridge. In addition it is a splendid sight from Treasure Island! It will light up the San Francisco Bay Bridge every night with random patterns for the next two years from sunset till 2am.
