Artist's Description

Homotherium serum was a sabertoothed cat species whose range literally spanned the globe. It is also known more specifically as a scimitar cat because its incisors are smaller than those of sabertoothed cats such as Smilodon. It was also more lightly built and its long legs made it stand taller.

It was extremely successful and occurred far into the Arctic climates. My digital piece here is pure speculation. What if Homotherium living in the far northern reaches had different seasonal coat colorations like arctic foxes and ptarmigans? It’s a simple idea but I couldn’t get it out of my head.
So here you have two cats, or just one, showing both speculative seasonal phases!

I heavily referenced the glorious illustrations in Mauricio Anton’s book Sabertooth. That book is AMAZING, definitely a good buy if you love sabertooths.
