A Debt Paid

The price of pride
We think of the cost it would take to follow Him
But when do we think the price we would pay to deny our cross
Can we realize the price He paid
Or do we ask him to pay it everyday with our petty excuses
We settle for our actions instead of taking on the ultimate offering
Are we afraid to admit that we have to live weak
Quickly we hold to our pain that blinds us from reality
Our lazy hearts hide under the covers
Shaded from His love and all reality
We are all human
Those who hurt us are searching for it too
They simply need love
Don’t we all
Do we hold back
Sitting in comfort
Would we rather feel safe
Then trust in His grace
Does our flesh know
The discomfort He felt
If we believe in the name of the Son
Then why do we run
Letting His creation touch us
When He longs to hold us
We proclaim He is in control
Yet complain when things don’t go our way
Can’t we know He works through all
We believe that we would pay a price
When all of humanity would see the cost
For our complacency
Do we live in shame
To speak His name
To believe He could use us
So why are we not ashamed of our blatant sin
Why don’t we feel the sting of evil
What would be the price we pay
To live like they are loved
Like our lives are no more than
His breath
Or as if each second were their last
Do we really know
It’s for His glory
He was, is, and forever will be
Once we are gone
Memories will fade not long after
But He will always remain
So what price do we pay
When we live for ourselves
What do we gain when we hold tight
We may see riches and fame
But that will never last
All attention we draw to ourselves
Only takes away from Him
The only thing that could never be lost
We say in Him is life
So why doesn’t He have ours
Our every waking moment
What would become of us
If we lived in His presence
Do we live with a purpose
Then why isn’t it evident
What do our lives speak
Has He risen
Are we forgiven
What direction are we going
Or could I say wandering
Is not our only goal
To look like His son
Then why do we waste
Our thoughts and their time
If they looked at your life
Would they claim
Jesus is risen!
What price do we pay
