Artist's Description

. While over in Korea for my year, I was a member of the Black Cats squadron. Our mascot was a 24 year old black cat named Oscar. Major Oscar and he was old, bitter, and just loved being left alone, well and fed. He got used to me because during the hot months I would have to hydrate him with a needle and water in the neck. This water in his neck would last for two days, and I would have to do it again. Oscar is now gone, and lived over there for over 25 years.

Oscar had an intern named Oscar Jr. Jr was only 2 years old, and hated everyone. Turns out, he didn’t hate everyone, he just didn’t trust them. I found out that in the past people had taped him to chairs and spun him until he would throw up. They would lock him in a locker and beat the living crap out of it just to watch him take off like a bat out of hell when they would open the door. This is only a few of the things people would do to him. After I heard this I would come to work early and leave late so I could spend time with Jr. I have a ton of scars from him because he didn’t want anything to do with me. After time, treats and a ton of love he finally came around and would follow me everywhere on the flight line. When I came to work, he would wait on the cat walk for me, and skip all but three steps on the way down to get to me once he spotted me. Oscar Jr became my very best friend over in Korea. I would spend my days off, weekends and holidays with him on the flight line just sitting on the ramp with him and playing. He would chase after me like a puppy and we literally would wrestle around. To this day I love Oscar Jr with all my heart and soul and miss him dearly. He is proof beyond all reason that love can break any barrier and tear down any wall no matter how big it is. Oscar Jr is still over in Korea and I check on him when I can to make sure he is doing well, which he is. There is a new policy out for Captain Oscar Jr keeping him very safe and under very strict watch to keep what was in the past, in the past. I love my cats I have now, but I will never love an animal the way I did, and do Oscar Jr. He kept me safe, and gave me the worlds greatest friendship I have even known. One day I’ll get to see him again, I just hope that when I walk into that hanger and yell OSCAR that he remembers and comes running. My wife and I have tried several time to get the military to allow us to adopt him, we even offered to pay all vet bills up to date and his shipping to us. My wife knows how much he means to me, and she would do it without a thought. But this beautiful cat is was lots of love can do.
