Some Father and Son Bonding

By the time we found a parking spot, it was pouring. Lifting our coats over our heads, we ran into the building. The lady at the door stamped our hands before letting us in.

“Hey kids!” a familiar voice shouted.

“Chuckie!” Soon the giant mouse was surrounded by a swarm of kids, charmed by his high-pitched voice and toothy grin. Adam ran and gave him a hug, beckoning for me to take a picture.

Adam and I headed toward the counter to get some tokens. After stocking up, Adam began to roam the area. From game to game he went until finally he settled for an old-fashioned game of “Whack-a-Mole." Slowly a crowd formed around him as he terrorized that puppet with his hammer. He threw that mole a contemptible look before whacking him one last time.

A bell rang and tickets sped out of the machine. Triumphantly, Adam took his winnings and led the crowd to the prize counter. Taking his time, he looked over each prize carefully before choosing one. He pointed at a clue finder and a code book filled with ancient-looking symbols.

“Look what I got, Dad!” he yelled.

“I’m proud of you, son!” Then my phone rang.

“Hello?”

“Hey, it’s Jeff. Where are you?”

“I took my son to Chuck E. Cheese’s.”

“What’s the occasion?”

I glanced at Adam and smiled.

“He’s going through a mid-life crisis.”
