Warped

Must I endure this any longer?
Why must you do this to me?
Torment me – like curls of waves, gnashing into the rocks
Sway me – like a languished leaf, warped in a storm
Like a pebble, plummeting from a cliff top

Set me free – like a dove, swooping into the emblazoned
warmth of the horizon
Let me be – like a tree adorned with the blessing of fruit
Like a tender petal, drifting into the heavens

Let me live once again
Let me relish the redolence of the honeyed air in spring
Let me feel alive, feel the pain, let me taste the melancholy
motions and the damp tears

My soul weeps, it yearns for peace, for grace, for nothing and
for something
So much to give, yet none to take
No wiser the fool than before
Shattered apart like a window scattered along a pane
Like a leaf persisting to break free from the merciless
branch of a tree
Like venom pulsating through the veins, relentlessly polluting
my very being

Tussling and striving
Deadened and consumed by a plethora of affliction – as I coil
my heart into the depths of obscurity . . .
