Artist's Description

The villa I rented in the Tuscan hills near San Gimignano had the most wonderful garden with all sorts of quirky things, like these brightly coloured pencils juxtaposed with metal planters full of herbs and beautifully scented roses.
The owners had their own vineyard and an olive grove which provided extra virgin olive oil and they also kept bees, so honey was on the menu too. Plump green figs could be picked fresh for breakfast each morning and these were particularly good poached lightly and drizzled with honey for a very healthy pudding. I, to be totally decadent used to add Italian ice cream. My friend who had never eaten, or wanted to eat a fig in her life was addicted by the end of the holiday. Memorable food in a memorable place.
