Artist's Description

One hundred years ago, the Peter Iredale came ashore very gently while trying to enter the Columbia River. There were no injuries. It’s said the captain only brought three things ashore with him…his sextant, his log book, and a flask of whisky. He used the whisky to drink this toast to his ship…“May God bless you, and may your bones bleach in the sands.” He then turned to his crew and the coast guardsmen who had gathered around and said “Boys, have a drink.”
