I am Faith. My work lives on to enliven the lives of the beings who buy it. Felicity, my only daughter and first born child, represents my work and spirit since my departure from life. I have always painted. At four years of age, my mother, Ruth, also as artist, let me paint the walls of our Chicago apartment while I was inside and she was working as a journalist in 1940’s Chicago. My mother taught me the secret of painting eyes. I first loved the drama and movement of flowers which were my inspiraton, then jazz. But both were fueled by the love of my own children and the love of the children in the high school/middle school I founded and ran for 20 years. People have honored my work and spirit by writing poems and music inspired by my paintings. sending their children to my school, and purchasing my paintings and giclees.
I also had the honor of being recognized at the induction cermony of the International Jazz Hall of Fame and of becoming one of the three invited American artists to the largest jazz festival in world, The North Sea Jazz Festival in 2000. My work and my mother Ruth’s work, is in the collection of the Texas A & M Presidenital Library and of George H.W. Bush. My paintings have hung in the Corporate Art Gallery of VH1/MTV Studios in New York. It is in the private collections of Clint Eastwood, Matt Lauer of the Today Show, the family of Victor Borge, the family of Stanely Turrentine, sports stars such as Paul Gruber and Derrick Brooks of NFL football , and Bobby Knight of Indiana University. Donations of my paintings were given to The Ricky Bell Foundation, Clearwater Jazz Holiday, The Burn Foundation, music scholarship fund and civic organizations. My work has been featured in the Art Business News, Jazz Times, and major U.S. newspapers. I have been honored at Lincoln Center and Kennedy Center and I have held exhibitions at ArtExpo New York and Art Expo San Franciso, The Monterrey Jazz Festival, and Las Vegas Art 21.
I passed from breast cancer in 2006 and the funds from your purchase of a giclee will go to my daughter who carries on the message of my work and to multiple sclerosis research.
