Artist's Description

Let me introduce you to Sir Toby, alias Scruff. This oh so aristocratic and oh so stubborn creature came to live with me the day I actually went to the animal sanctuary to look for my gorgeous cat Paddy, whose portrait I have posted here! Of course, I took the cat box with me and put it down on the floor of the large room where lots of compatible cats were waiting for their owners or adoption. The catch of the cat box door must have been loose. While I was looking at all the other cats, Toby got into the box and sat to wait for me. He had been in that room for only about 10 minutes and was obviously ready to move on. I paid a horrendous “donation” for him, probably more because he’s a real pedigree cat (I think he’s a Siberian Persian, whatever that means). He was about 7 years old at the time and I’ve had him 7 years, so he’s quite mature now, but has lost none of his youthfulness, at least when kicking a ball around. Apart from when he is playing, he does everything slow motion. He refuses to be groomed, so he is invariably all knotted up. But I forgive him all his little foibles because he is the most devoted cat I have ever had. He follows me round everywhere and sometimes really gets on my nerves. But I love him, of course. Everybody loves Sir Toby.
Here we have a photo of him in possession of reading material. He likes to help me at the computer. He scrunches up my references and sorts the pages as they emerge from the printer. He takes the tops off pens and pushes them into inaccessible places. He’s also artistic. He drinks my painting water (seems to like cadmium red flavour – non-poisonous, of course) and last week he got in with the pastel chalks and ran around with pink paws (they are otherwise pristine white) for days. He looked really cute. He prefers zoological programmes on TV to almost anything else, but has been known to get absorbed in master cookery if it involves fish. I could go on for hours……
