In Saami mythology Sárahkká is the protector goddess of girls and women. Pregnant women prayed her for protection. If child was a girl parents hanged feathers, beaks and legs of snow grouse to the komsio (Saami cradle). Snow Grouse was sacred animal to Sárahkká.
Sami people are the native people of northern Europe. Saami land covers four countries. It reaches from middle Norway and Sweden to northern Finland to Kuola Peninsula in Russia.
