Artist's Description

This early fifties scene shows the morning departure of the original ‘The Scarborough Flyer’ from the capital. drawn by an example of the LNER’s final (some would say finest) Pacific design, A1 60140 Balmoral. The A1 proved to be a powerful, reliable loco that was so popular that ‘The Steam Locomotive Trust’ spent around three million pounds and almost ten years building a new one after all the class were scrapped.
Also in this scene is a Thompson B1 4.6.0 and an N2 0.6.2T loco with condensing gear for tunnel operation.
