Acrylic and Chalk Pastel on Pre-primed Canvas Frame, 50 × 40cm, September 2003.
This image came about out of the need for an image to advertise an upcoming ArtAction Gawler Inc. exhibition. Previously I had been creating sketches of Cows in unusual situations (deep sea diving for example) with a view to producing a series of paintings.
None of the sketches were useful but I thought a cow would still make an ideal subject to promote an exhibition in a semi rural town like Gawler. I grabbed a blank canvas, drew a cow on it and painted it. The image used on the exhibition posters featured the cow only half complete (undercoat only!).

“Horses were one of the first animals I learned to draw more realistically at around age 6 or 7. Consequently they sometimes still appear in my art. Oh, I and I do occasionally draw other animals too!”
