Artist's Description

Pen and Wash

Last week I visited my mother (now 81 years of age) who had a wonderful book on the history of English town of Chadderton, Lancashire, where she grew up. I think the War of the Roses ended when my grandmother, a Yorkshire woman, married my grandfather from Lancashire. Seriously, the history of Chadderton dates back before the 12th century and it was a fascinating book. I chose a drawing originally done in pencil by J Herbert Heywood, on which to base my first pen and wash. Hunt Lane Farm was built some time before the 1800s and was demolished in 1914 to make way for a railway line.

I was inspired to try pen and wash because of my admiration for my redbubble friend Colin’s lovely work. I really enjoyed doing this and think I will like this style.
