Artist's Description

I went over to watch the eagles that hang out on a country road this time of year to take some photos. I set up my tripod and used a shutter remote release to get shots of the moon, and waited for one of the eagles to fly within the moon to grab a silhouette shot. The moon was rising, and the sun was setting behind me, This was just before dark. Shot in raw format, tweaked my contrast in the lab.
I learned from an article if you want silhouettes against a full moon, you’ll want to be in position while the moon is still low in the sky. The best time of year is often winter when the air is cold and haze is at a minimum. This was taken on January 14, 2014. It was clear, with no wind. Taken in Idaho between Hagerman and Wendell.

Camera: Canon EOS REBEL T2i with EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM lens.
Shutter Speed 1/640 sec.
F-Stop f/6.5
Focal Length 400mm
Shutter release and tripod used
