Artist's Description

Paradise Island (Hog Island) Lighthouse, northwest entrance to New Providence and the Port of Nassau, Bahamas.

This lighthouse is one of the most well known and oldest surviving lighthouse in the West Indies, having been built in 1817. It is still active, emitting a white flash every 5 seconds and red during times of dangerous conditions. The top part of the lighthouse containing the light/lens, (painted red here) is known as the lantern.
