Still City

Desert city, dying day
You, so cool
in that quiet way

Words leave lips,
only to break teeth.
Still city lights,
blur in the distance
over your shoulder.

My back,
pressed to a borrowed Cadillac
claiming you as my own,
as ghosts of forgotten indians
whisper in approval.

Bathed in your breath,
you show me the place
where kisses live.

Quiet night breaks,
Feel me, kill me…
lay hands and heal me.

Safe in your soul,
the sun rises and
the unbeliever dies.
