The Indian Rhino is now on the at risk list. During the 18th and 19th century thousands of these animals roamed the Indian sub-continent but by the beginning of the 20th century, hunters had reduced their numbers to less tha 100. Breeding programs in zoos and the establishment of NationalParks in Inda and around the world have begun to raise the numbers again. At present there are estimated to be in excess of 2,500 in the wild and in zoos.
