This was taken just as the sun had come up at the Stirling Ranges in Western Australia.
It had been a wet and stormy night, and I was out trying to photograph lightning but was unsuccessful, so I found a nice spot that I had come across the day before and thought would make a nice spot for a sunrise shoot. When I arrived at the spot, it was still raining and overcast and I was expecting sunrise to be ruined by the cloud cover, but I decided to wait around for a while before heading back to camp. Shortly after sunrise, the clouds started to break up and I saw a gap in the clouds starting to open up, and then I started to see some colour breaking though the clouds, so I got my camera and tripod out the back of the car and set up and waited. Suddenly some sunlight came out from the clouds and the landscape in front of me lit up and became bathed in golden light. You can see some rain coming down in the top right hand corner of the photo behind the mountain range which was another bonus! The light didn’t last very long though, maybe 5-10 mins, then it became overcast again and started to rain again, so I packed up and headed back to camp. It didn’t clear up again till around midday on that day, but it was a spectacular sunrise and one of my favourite photos, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed shooting it.
