The Tale of Two Kitties

Once upon a time there was a kitty called Anna. She was very beautiful, and of course, she was quite aware of this. So she expected her person to behave with adoration, and fulfill her every wish. This did occur most of the time, although there were some arguments about food periodically, when the person became quite nasty and refused to supply fresh fish each day. However, Anna had her own ways of dealing with this disobedience. ’ Missing’ the litter tray was a good one, or spreading the contents over the floor worked well also. Good to see the human down on her knees cleaning it up.

Anna refused to allow any other cats to enter the property where she lived, although she did tolerate a dog to live there. The dog provided some fun; it was great to hide behind the door and leap out at the dog or to stop her from responding to the person’s call by sitting in the middle of the passageway and swiping at the dog each time she attempted to pass. It did afford some amusement.

But time passed, as did the dog, and all was peaceful for a time.

Then along came Frank!!!!!

That long-haired blue eyed fancy cat!!

To begin with, he kept a distance and only showed his face after dark. " Just passing through," he’d lie. Yeh, passing through like a boomerang. The person gave up chasing him away and foolishly began to leave food out for him. At least it wasn’t of the type that Anna would ever touch, she wouldn’t even give it to a dog!

When no-one was looking, Anna would scream and pretend that she was being attacked by Frank. It always got a result. Well, sort of. Frank would look innocent and the fur in Anna’s claws was always a bit of a give-away.

Moving day came. Good, thought Anna. Now at least we can be free of him. Good riddance and all that.

“What?!!! He’s coming with us?!!!!! We’ll see about that!!!!!!”

“Okay, let’s face it. The person has finally flipped over the edge, I knew this would happen some day, all the signs were there for anyone to see. " Anna thought to herself.
There needed to be a fresh strategy to deal with this situation.

So while pretending to be asleep in front of the fire, Anna thought and thought about how she could rid her house of Frank, as the person insisted on calling him. Just because of his blue eyes and strong voice! What a name, bahhhh!!! Still, it is providing some entertainment in the meantime, she thought, as she stretched thoughtfully, before moving over to where Frank lay quietly.

Yeowww!! Take that!!! And that!!! And poor Frank leapt away from the claws and sought refuge outside. In the wind and rain.

One day, the person and Frank went off very early in the morning, before even the sun was up. And they didn’t return until well after sundown. In fact, it was so late that Anna was wondering if they had forgotten about her. She was cold and hungry and actually feeling a little bit lonely. And Frank didn’t seem quite himself, he seemed to be, well, not quite all there. At least, not in the way he’d been before his trip. So she left him alone, just for the time being, not to make a habit of it, of course.

Artist's Description

I wrote this one day last year to amuse a friend of mine who was unwell. It is all true, and is the story of how Frank came to live with me. It actually took me over a year to gain his trust sufficiently for me to touch him, even though he would follow me around outside at a safe distance. He was living wild along a river bank, catching rabbits to survive, but when he finally entered my home, he was familiar with the domestic scene. At some point in his early life, he had been loved. What happened later I can only guess, but he still has a fear of any other people. It is only me he adores.
