Sydney Rain

Endlessly I watch the rain,
The rivulets on window pane
Journeying and making trails
Meandering like tracks of snails
Until they reach the window sill,
Gathering in pools, and still
The rain persists, the sky stays grey,
The hues are more of night than day.
The pounding sound of rain on tiles
Persists as background all the while
In muted tone and drumming voice.
Stuck inside with little choice,
Passing by the endless hours
Watching heaven’s torrential power.
A rivers forms and drowns the grass,
Bubbles and debris sailing past
And journeying beyond the drain
That’s overwhelmed by endless rain.
Delta-like it spreads its load
A muddy handprint on the road.
Brown fingers starting down the hill,
Determined rain persisting still.
A waterfall of mud and silt
Erupts beneath the fence full tilt
Expanding like a brown balloon
Across the once clear swimming pool.
And still it rains and still I gaze
Through blurry windows misty haze,
Watching borders turn to ponds
And ferns that droop their weighted fronds.
Six years we had of sun-filled days -
I think the drought has passed away.
