The Fall

However badly failing falls
a bed of feathers
bests them all,
to wake up
wondering
why you feared to fall
at all.
Or even worse
to fall onto
a bed of nails
and wonder who
has put them there
when you could swear
that there were only feathers there
last time you fell,
which was a year
and a day
ago.
So long to fall
and thinking fell
and woke up in a wishing well
and wished the bed of nails
into a swishing net of
fishy tales
that would top the freakish fall
of all
the rest
the rest
of all
the falling fells down
wishing wells
would splash into the dreary dells
the drown beneath the watery hells
of writhing, wreathing, wondering…
feathers.
However badly falling fails
when feathers pad the pondering wells,
it is ever worse in hells
found falling
fast
down
wishing wells.
