2 Week Wait

One blue line. Again. Another month of being one person. Another month of eating for one. One extra month until we are a family. One more month of smiling on the outside. One more month of vitamin supplements, of preparatory yoga and pilates. And for what? One more month of 2 week waits; to do it – to find out.

She bristles as she hears him bustling and baritoning along to Elton John in the kitchen. Why doesn’t he care anymore?

He watches her walk into the room, his heart breaking a bit. He was sure it was their time – sure. He dances over, hoping to put that smile back on her face, the one she used to have for him. He squints over her shoulder at the white stick clenched in her hand – “Never mind love. Hey – I guess that’s why they call it the blues!”

This popped into my head for another Flash Fiction Challenge Didn’t come quite as easy as my piece of rubbish writing, and I’m not sure that I have really answered the challenge having read some of the other stuff…. but I thought I’d put it out there.
