I was fortunate to visit Peru in September of 2010. They had quite the rainy season and in February of that year, flooding closed Peru Rail which was the only reliable mode of transportation to and from the city of Aguas Calientes (home of Machu Picchu) crippling it severely. Tourists had to be airlifted out of the area by military helicopters. This is how the city was 7 months later. I was unable to precisely capture the destruction using plain photography. HDR seems to illustrate this disaster in a profound way.
