Henri Cartier-Bresson Exhibition

This exhibition at the Brisbane Art Galllery is well worth a visit. He is such a MASTER of composition and he is so consistently good. He must have been a very patient man to wait for the perfect moment. I found the experience most inspiring and it challenging. It’s on until November. Details would be on the Qld Art Gallery website.

My current project is to take photos for greeting and post cards to sell at our local market and maybe in local shops. I find landscapes etc quite challenging! I’ve moved away from my abstract style though not forever as I discovered an engineering yard full of rusty pipes etc so I’ll have to see if I can get access to it.
And all the while I’m thoroughly enjoying my drawing and painting classes: the way a work evolves, the long process with various stages and layers, learning about colour, papers and brushes as well as studying art history are all things that I’m learning with joy. It’s so different from taking photos. I suppose different areas of the brain are involved.

Last day at Eveleigh Markets

My last day at Eveleigh Markets will be 5th December as later in December I’m moving to the bush. It’s been a good experience and it would be good to continue but it will be too far to come back. This is also why I’m hardly participating in Redbubble at the moment – too busy packing up etc for the big move! Hopefully when I settle down in January I’ll get back to wanting to be creative!

I’m sorry I’m taking a long time to acknowledge comments. When I first joined Redbubble I had plenty of time on my hands but now working (I teach English as a Second Language to adults) I’m finding it harder to devote time to RB. As well as that, I have to be in the right mood!! I like to visit each commenter’s gallery at a leisurely pace as well as say thank you.
So to all the unacknowledged I just want you to know that I will get there eventually.

Happy Christmas and New Year to all

I wish you all a happy Christmas and blessings of good health and rich, satisfying artistic experiences in the New Year.
I have had and will have limited access to RedBubble for a while so in the meantime could I suggest you take a look at my sister Christina Backus’ gallery instead. I think she has wonderful photos.

Thank you to all at RedBubble

It’s been a very energising few weeks for me since I joined RddBubble so I’d just like to let the other members know what a life-giving experience it’s been for me and to thank everyone for their contribution to this whether in inspiring me with your artistic expression, viewing and commenting on my photos or choosing some of my shots to be featured.
Life is full of surprises! I’ve been taking photos for quite a few years now but have never had the motivation to promote my work in any way. In reality, I must confess that I wanted someone else to come along and do it for me! using the excuse that I didn’t have a head for business.
But something positive has happened to me in finding a community where I can satisfy the artistic side of me and let someone else do the business. In this case I…
