Part of SoJie16, Landscape and light workshop
In search of Landscape in San Francisco, I came across this view of Lombard street. I have to say that I have seen it before and was actually heading toward it. The day was bright and it was mid afternoon. Not a great time to take shots with good contrast and clarity. But my mission was to find a shot that would show the landscape that says San Francisco. To get close to the crooked street is near to impossible as far as getting a good shot. There are so many people and cars and I really don’t like that aspect of this cool landmark in this awesome city. It is a must that you go there and drive down, but to take a photo is difficult when you want just the right shot.
So as I descended down from Coit tower, I took quite a few test shots that really weren’t working out. In the end I used a gray sky and did an overlay of it to soften some of the buildings. To me it feels as it there is a bit of fog as you often see in San Francisco.
Below you can see my original shot….I am showing test shots and work in progress to get to this final image. Thanks for viewing
“Landscape on Lombard Street”
Original shot, you can see that I cut off the building in the distance
Not balanced as a composition
The building is distracting here
The sky had to be reintroduced and this felt a bit to heavy.
