The Dance of My Life

Whispers heard on a summer’s night

Clear as rinsed crystals

Linger in my ears and take my mind back

To youth and joy, dancing with cymbals

My shoes were red patent leather

With very sharp pointy toes

My dress was red satin and fitting

A body lithe and swaying, as the music rose

A stranger held me tightly but gently

I knew who was leading the dance

I followed his every movement

Leaving nothing to chance

Our heads looked one way than another

Then we looked into each other’s eyes

Then away again, throwing me into a twirl

grabbing and pulling me to him, lust had no disguise

My heart pounded deep inside me

I felt I was gliding through flames of fire

This stranger dancing with me for the first time

Had me aching for him with desire

Then slowly he pulled me closer to him

Placing my head on his broad chest

Tiny flutters of neck kisses enthralled me

My body yielding , feelings about to crest

Then I heard his tender voice

Whispering on this cool summer night

As clear as crystal I heard him

Suddenly voided of fright

In this one moment, the dance of my life

All my dreams seemed to come alive

As he whispered that he’d love me forever

I still hear him, the reason I have survived
