The Treadmill

I’m not a gerbil or a hamster

But I feel like one some days

When I’m running on my treadmill

Going every which aways

I don’t know what gets me started

But it goes faster as the day goes by

And before I know it, the day has gone

Time on the treadmill seems to fly

There are so many busy things to do

And I thought that those days were gone

But it seems to be getting more hectic

As time pushes me along

Like the current in a stream

picks up after a storm

My life sometimes feels like that

I get very tired and worn

There is always something new to do

Somewhere else to go

Telephone ringing off the hook

Hoping it’s someone that I know

And with all the busyness going on

At times I want to flee

For I feel like leaves fluttering

on branches of a windblown tree

Running on the treadmill

has become a way of life

I’m not just some little old lady

And I’m not somebody’s wife

I’m me, a person newly born

Out there for everyone to see

Running on life’s treadmill

Until finally I am free

The Treadmill
