The Waiting Game

I stand here hesitating

I can’t move I’ m mesmerized

Why is he keeping me waiting

I don’t like to be surprised

He’s late and hasn’t even called me

To say he can’t be here

doesn’t he know that I am worried

I am holding back a tear

I pray that he is safe somewhere

That he can’t get to a phone

It must be something like that

He knows I’m frightened when alone

My mind traveling at light speed

Racing, twisting, with the wind

Imagining all kinds of terrible things

The door opens, I love the arms I’m in

The Waiting Game
