My Soul in a Bird Bath

My soul, and my heart on wings, took flight
Off on a journey one starry night
To a place to find much needed peace
From restless worries that never cease

I flew over mountains with snow on the top
Down in the valleys, gliding , couldn’t stop
Over the deserts dry and parched
Not very welcoming so wings were arched

My wings were weary, I was getting tired
My heart was heavy, almost expired
Then a gentle breeze began to blow
And my soul found life again you know

For resting is wonderful when you are through
But I don’t seem to be ready what can I do
I wanted to land but not just anywhere
So I circled and glided lifted by air

I am searching for those that are missing from me
If I don’t find them I will never be free
My eyes are looking forward and aft
As my soul is uplifted by a heavenly laugh

And there I see my loved ones waving at me
Smiling and lovingly, I’m filled with glee
And then I am falling down with the draft
And I find myself resting in a lovely bird bath

Why here, I think to myself, as I rest
Why wasn’t I allowed to continue my quest
But then my head caught up with my heart
And my soul reminded me I could always start

To Soar again, on heavenly winds
Whenever I needed the breezes would sing
The stars would appear magical, a beautiful sight
I’ll be off on my quest rested, in silvery moonlight
